Literally This can be a literal question or a figurative one. I have to answer both questions differently. When I’m in the car, I like to be the passenger. It has a lot to do with the fact that I have a horrible sense of direction. I live in a major metropolitan area with a major traffic problem and no matter how many times I get on the major roads (aka the Beltway), I have major problems. Pretty major, right. I’m being dramatic but I really can get stressed out if I’m going someplace that’s … [Read more...]

I’m versus I am…It’s a serious question
Ok, so you all know about my editing challenges by now, and I’d like to put them in the past too, but as I was self-editing my sequel to Stay yesterday, I had a thought. If I know I’m going to change most of the I am’s to I’m in the final draft, why don’t I just write them that way to begin with? It certainly would save me time. I know this and I still don’t change it. I write I am every time. It’s simply what I do as a writer. It’s who I am. Who are you, I really want to know I’m going to get … [Read more...]

There is a new hygienist in my dental practice. When I went for a checkup a few weeks ago, I got in the chair, opened my mouth, and after looking for two seconds, she called me out as a tooth grinder. Pretty personal, right? Now, she’s a trained professional employed to spot things of this nature but it made me think: how long does it really take to get to know someone? Grilled cheese, yoga pants and things that make you feel comfortable
Raise your hand if you’ve ever avoided doing something that makes you even the slightest bit uncomfortable. If I could really see you I’m sure I would see a lot of hands! It’s human nature to seek situations, environments and things that make us feel good, calm, wanted, loved...comfortable. When I think about comfort, I think about family, friends, a big fluffy blanket, yoga pants and grilled cheese and tomato soup. When I think about being uncomfortable, I think about shoes that don’t fit … [Read more...]
