Ok, so you all know about my editing challenges by now, and I’d like to put them in the past too, but as I was self-editing my sequel to Stay yesterday, I had a thought. If I know I’m going to change most of the I am’s to I’m in the final draft, why don’t I just write them that way to begin with? It certainly would save me time. I know this and I still don’t change it. I write I am every time. It’s simply what I do as a writer. It’s who I am. Who are you, I really want to know I’m going to get … [Read more...]
The ship hasn’t left the port. Embark and go…
Not so long ago, I was listening to a lecture on how parents can help their children find and embrace their gifts, talents and passions. I walked away from it with some valuable insight on how to encourage and support my kids in finding success doing the things that make them happy. Never once during the lecture did I think that these same insights and suggestions could be applied to me at all. It’s so unfortunate that as we get older, we often accept the idea that we can’t or shouldn’t try new … [Read more...]
Open wide! I want to see inside

Grilled cheese, yoga pants and things that make you feel comfortable
Raise your hand if you’ve ever avoided doing something that makes you even the slightest bit uncomfortable. If I could really see you I’m sure I would see a lot of hands! It’s human nature to seek situations, environments and things that make us feel good, calm, wanted, loved...comfortable. When I think about comfort, I think about family, friends, a big fluffy blanket, yoga pants and grilled cheese and tomato soup. When I think about being uncomfortable, I think about shoes that don’t fit … [Read more...]
Call the mechanic, I need a tune-up
How many of you are really truly happy with the person who fixes your car? Do you believe that you get a good deal and accurate diagnosis when you bring your car in for service? Do you constantly ask others for referrals in search of the one shop that you can trust with all of your car-related needs? Ok, no, I’m not writing an ad for an auto shop but all of the same concerns apply when looking for an editor. I found out the hard way that editors, just like mechanics, are not all created … [Read more...]
